Entry Rules

ENTRY, PAYMENT, CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

  1. Entry fees are required for each participant by the closing date.
  2. All entries and ticket purchases must be processed online. A confirmation email will be sent following the completion of each transaction.   3. Email confirmation is proof of entry/ticket purchase.
  4. There are no refunds for entry cancellations if cancellation is received after or within one month prior to the start of the event.
  5. The organiser has the right to refuse entry or remove, without explanation, anyone attempting to or attending The Carnelian Open Championship.
  6. Please check this closely for spelling, correct entries, and correct charges and let us know immediately if we need to make changes. Please be advised that at the competition we may not have the time to make changes or take additional entries.
  7. A couple is counted as “registered” only then, when required registration form has been submitted in the specified time period and all the required payments have been made. Once registered and paid, but not present in the competition (haven’t arrived) no refunds will be provided to the couple.
  8. Each competitor should be present in the ballroom at least 1 hour prior to scheduled dance time. When you receive your heat sheet, please check and make sure your dances, levels, and ages are correct. We need to be made aware of any mistakes as soon as possible.
  9. The organizers do not have to stop the competition if a couple did not come on the dance floor for their heat. If the couple has missed their heat, no money will be returned.
  10. The organizer is not responsible and cannot be held liable for any personal belongings left in the ballroom, the changing rooms or any other Competition premises.
  11. The client, being fully cognizant of the risks inherent in ballroom dancing and exhibitions, shall hereby assume all risks of bodily injury and property damage inherent in attending this event.
  12. Competition organizers are not liable and not responsible for any health problems or injuries during the event. This is solely risk of the participants.
  13. If the couple does not abide the rules set in this document (Ex: dances more dance figures than their level allows) they will receive a warning in the first round, their results will be disqualified for the dance in the next round, and will receive last places in the final. If a couple does not dance a certain dance in the final, they will be marked last for that dance.
  14. Please be advised that the time in the schedule listed is approximate and subject to change.
  15. Consent to the use and release of his/her name and likeness to be used in photographs, television filming and recording of the event used in connection with the television broadcast, exhibition, distribution or promotion of the event in any manner and by any means, now or in the future, by the Carnelian Dance Association, Carnelian Events, Diamantopoulou Alexandra, Linardatou Evangelia, or its parent, related, affiliated or subsidiary companies.
  16. If any person has an objection to being video tapped or the possibility of being seen on these tapes or in any publicity trailers or other use of his or her picture, please notify the organisers of this event in writing thirty days prior to the commencement. Failure to notify will be considered as permission granted.
  17. All persons attending this event, whether as spectators or as competitors or as officials or guests of the organiser, shall be bound by the Carnelian Dance Association rules, and by participating in this event, automatically become obligated to adhere to them.

These rules and regulations have been created in accordance to the rules and regulations of WDO (World Dance Organisation) and meet the main articles of their regulations.

 

Dance types in the competition:                                                                    

  • International Standard (W,T,Vw,F,Q)
  • International Latin (C,S,R,Pd,J)

Dance time rules:

In all dance types the music has to be played between 1:00 min and 1:30 min.

Viennese Waltz – between 1:00 and 1:20 min. Paso Doble – 2 accents.

Showcase competition music times are specified in the Show rules and regulations below.

Categories and levels:

Open categories do not have any syllabus restrictions. Closed categories have the syllabus restrictions based on the level, which are determined by the BDC rules and regulations.

Age Groups are determined by the age of the student. Participants can dance in their own age bracket and one younger. The opposite applies to Juvenile and Junior competitors.

Lifts:

Showcase can have a maximum of three (3) lifts, which are not longer than 15 seconds each.

Props and lights:

The props (Chairs, sticks or other extras) are not allowed. All couples in the competition dance with the same light set up. Any other light effects are prohibited.

Music:

The music has to be given to the DJ before the competition. Formats: CD, i-pad, I-phone, I-Pod or USB.

Adjudication criteria:

Adjudicators will mark couples based on these criteria, which are all of equal value:

Choreography, Technique, Complexity, Character, Couple dancing (togetherness), Musicality

Markings and results:

In first rounds, the adjudicators will write down the list of all couples, who in their opinion, will qualify for the next round. In the final, the couples will be marked by places from 1 to 6, after all the couples have completed their show dances.

IMPORTANT: If the couple does not meet all the rules and regulations stated above (exceeds time limit, uses more lifts than allowed, uses props etc.) the couple will be disqualified by the decision on the chairman of Adjudicators.

Skating System:

Skating System will be used to assess the marks.

Awards:

After the conclusion of Single and Multi dance competitions, all couples will receive Diplomas and organizer presents. The monetary prizes are given immediately at the awards ceremony in the event in case there is a large turnout of couples in these categories and the Organisation can cope with the monetary awards. In the event that the entries of the couples in the ranking categories are insufficient, they receive the ranking points for the world championship and the prize money is given at another time by depositing the prize to the account of the couple entitled to it. In the ranking categories if the Organisation has announced a monetary reward and the monetary prize is high, to the Winner, the 1st one, then the Organisation has the right to give 2 more monetary prizes. 1st, 2nd, 3rd. In the opposite case where the Organisation has announced monetary prizes for the finalists, then all 6 finalists are entitled to monetary prizes. The organizers have the right to award the couples with extra prizes and nominations.

Adjudicators:

Only International level of Adjudicators with International License will be judging the event. During the competition, it is prohibited for adjudicators to talk with participating couples, give their remarks and opinions. It is also prohibited for adjudicators to discuss couples between themselves.

Couples are not permitted to approach any judges and ask for their opinion or remarks. Adjudicators cannot comment on their marks.

Couples must take marks as final and they are not under any discussions.

Organisation, BOD desicion:

The Organisation has the right, in the event that there is not a large turnout of couples in the high categories with prize money, to reduce or transfer the payment of the prize money during the period of time that the Organisation can cope with financially. The Organisation is non-profit and whatever money it collects it returns to the dancers through its work.

The couples cannot comment on the decision of the board of directors in the event of a financial obstacle to the event and have no claim to the organiser's financial burden until the payment of the prize money is deemed feasible.

Definition of a Professional, Amateur/Professional and Student/Teacher Competitor Dancer.

Student and Amateur:  in Student/Teacher and Professional/Amateur categories can dance in the category below theirs but cannot dance in the category above theirs.

Student: (In the Student/Teacher Category)

A dancer who dances with a Teacher that is a registered Amateur dancer.

Amateur: (In the Professional/Amateur Category)

A dancer (with no professional qualifications) who dances with a registered Professional dancer.

Professional: A Professional dancer must have declared they are Professional.

Being qualified as a Professional in any of the dance styles within the WDO, you are classified as a Professional in all other mentioned styles.

WDO Ranking System:

  1. Dance couples receive Ranking points for each participation in the World Championships and Ranking Competitions.
  2. Points are rewarded for World Championships and Ranking Competitions according to the table of points.
  3. Points received are totaled.
  4. WDO Ranking system has 4 categories: Amateur Ballroom & Latin, Professional Ballroom & Latin. Carnelian Open Latin Championship has 2 categories: Professional and Amateur Latin with Ranking Points and Prize Money.
  5. Points are collected separately for each category.

JUVENILES DRESS RULES

  • BOYS:

Trousers: Black or Dark Blue. Only High Waist optional. Underfoot Strap optional. Satin side stripes are allowed.

Shirts: Plain white long sleeve collared shirt only. Νo wing collars. No pleats, frills or ribbing. Sleeves to be worn at wrist length. Black or dark blue vests are allowed. Sweaters and jackets are not allowed. Tie must be worn. Black color only, may be either straight or bow style.

Materials: Fabrics must be plain, for ex - cotton, polyester, cotton/polyester blend, wool blend. No satin or shiny fabrics. No rhinestones, glitter, metallic thread, patterns or sequins allowed. Decorations are not allowed.

Shoes: Heel height not to exceed 1.5 inches, only  black.

Socks: Black or dark blue color only.

Jewellery: No jewellery is allowed. Only jewellery of a personal/religious nature maybe worn. This should be around the neck and inside the clothing.

Sponsorship Logo's: A maximum of 3 logo's will be permitted per couple or per solo competitor.

  • GIRLS

A top with a simple skirt or simple dress with an attached under garment. Leotard top with a simple skirt.

Skirts: A plain or pleated circular skirt. The length of the skirt must not be shorter than 3 inches above the knee cap and no longer than 3 inches below the knee cap. A maximum of 2 underskirts are allowed but must be no fuller or longer than the top layer. The underskirt must be the same or of a similar color to the top skirt. At least one of the layers of the skirt must be a solid color. No godets or extra panels may be inserted into the skirt. No uneven hem lines. Horsehair/Crinoline may be used as part of the construction but not as a trim. Ribbon on the skirt is acceptable, but no other trim is allowed. Frills, splits, openings, lace, flowers or sequins will not be allowed.

Materials: All fabrics used must be of the same color throughout. Any use of mesh, lace or 'see through' fabric must be lined in a solid material of the same color from the waist to the top of the bustline, as well as a corresponding height in the back. When mesh, lace, or any 'see through' fabric is used on the arms no lining is needed. No flesh color fabric. No rhinestones, pearls, sequins, beads, feathers, metallic thread or similar adornments allowed. No use of fringes, belts and frills.

Jewellery: Only jewellery of a personal/religious nature maybe worn. This should be around the neck and inside the clothing. Earrings not exceeding 2cm can be worn. Decorative bracelets are NOT permitted. Dress rings and wristwatches are NOT permitted.

Necklines: Boat, high neck, v-neck, sweetheart, 'peter pan' collar, and regular collar are allowed. Simple edging or trim is allowed on the neckline. No backless bodices permitted.

Hair Decoration: A single flower or bow not exceeding 10cm maybe worn in the hair. Tiaras, headbands or rhinestone decoration are NOT permitted.

Shoes: White shoes are preferable. Heel height not to exceed 1.5 inches of block heel style. If the shoe is manufactured with rhinestones on the buckle  then they are allowed. If the shoe is manufactured in a glitter fabric this will be allowed.

Socks: White ankle socks must be worn. Lace will be permitted. No Fishnet Tights.

Make-up: Any application of Juvenile make up should be kept age appropriate. The use of colored hair or body glitter sprays is not allowed.

Sponsorship Logo's: A maximum of 3 logo's will be permitted per couple or per solo dancer.

Entry Tickets

Email confirmation is proof of entry/seat/ticket purchase, which needs to be shown at the Welcome Desk on arrival.

Entry Fees DO NOT INCLUDE Admission fee, Admission tickets need to be purchased separately to enter the ballroom.

Please purchase admission tickets online to avoid long queue at the Welcome Desk. There are several ADMISSION & SEAT PACKAGES available on our website.

SEAT PURCHASE includes admission ticket. For seat allocation, priority will be given to customers purchasing seats for the duration of the event.

SEAT NUMBERS will be given at the Welcome Desk on arrival.

COMPETITOR NUMBERS can be collected from the Registration Desk inside the Ballroom.

There are no REFUNDS for entry cancellations if cancellation is received after or within one month prior to the start of the event.

DRESS CODE is business wear for daytime sessions and evening wear for the evening sessions.
